The Town of West Hartford encompasses 22.2 square miles and has a population of 61,046 (2000 Census). The town is a residential suburb of the Hartford metropolitan area. The Town encompasses a full range of quality housing from starter homes to luxury estates. West Hartford boasts a strong retail and service business sector.

History:
West Hartford is a town located in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The town was incorporated in 1854. Prior to that date, the town was a parish of Hartford. West Hartford is accessible by major thoroughfares including Interstate 84 which passes through the mid-southern portion of town and U.S. Route 44 which passes through the town from Hartford to Avon Mountain.
As of 2004, the town had an estimated total population of 64,255. The town is a mostly up market suburb of Hartford. The town has a vibrant downtown called West Hartford Center. This area is centered around Farmington Avenue and South/North Main Street. West Hartford Center has been the community's hub since the late 1600s.

Students engage in balanced literacy activities, integrated writing projects, hands-on mathematics learning, real-life social studies activities, study of the Spanish language, and inquiry-based science activities.
Hartlands PTO is extremely supportive, and their volunteer force is extensive and diverse. Through the school, numerous shows, festivals, and community-centered activities take place. Hartland School is a warm inviting place, where all are welcomed. They are a K-8 school that demonstrates how a small neighborhood school can successfully meet the complex needs of their children - and they take pride in working as a team.
Recreation
West Hartford is committed to providing area residents with recreational activities that are accessible, affordable, enjoyable and supportive of a healthy way of life. Under the management of Leisure Services, the facilities offer hundreds of high quality recreational and instructional opportunities for people of all ages, interests and abilities. The Town's annual two-day fair, Celebrate! West Hartford, is coordinated by this department. Over 50,000 people attend the fair each year.
