History:

Rocky Hill is a community of 19,000 persons with an average household income of $73,052 and per capita income of $31,670. The estimated number of households is 8,163 in 2004 with a projected increase of 9.10% by 2009. Median age of the total population is 41.4. The median home price in 2004 was $369,000. Yearly housing production is approximately 60 units, over the past 5 years. 88% of adults are high school graduates and 37% of adults are college graduates. Interstate access to Rocky Hill is from I-91, Exits 23 & 24. Connecticut Route 3 (200 ADT – 23,200) and Connecticut Route 99 (2000 ADT – 20,500) are 4 lane commercial strips that intersect I-91. The Silas Deane Highway (Route 99) is home to 295 businesses within a 1.37 mile distance from Exit 24. Population density is 1601 per square mile in 2004.

These categories show that Rocky Hill has a strong base of disposable income used to travel, dine out and purchase high-end apparel, sports related equipment and gourmet foods.

The town boasts an active Connecticut River boat launch and year round family recreation programming. We maintain over 400 acres of parks and open space including public outdoor and indoor pools. Rocky Hill was named, by Sports Illustrated Magazine, as one of the top 50 local sports towns in America in 2003.

The Rocky Hill Public Schools are committed to providing an educational environment in which all students discover and achieve their maximum potential in preparation for productive meaningful lives and responsible citizenship.

Recreation 

The Parks and Recreation Department consists of 4 divisions: Recreation, Parks, Seniors, and Aquatics. Full time staff consists of one Director of Parks and Recreation, one Parks Superintendent, one Senior Coordinator/Recreation Supervisor, one Aquatics Director/Recreation Supervisor, one Recreation Supervisor, six maintainers, and one full-time secretary.

The Department is responsible for park development, park maintenance, recreation programming, senior citizen programming, and aquatic programming for the community. The Parks & Recreation Department plays a strong role in assisting many community groups in their events and programs. We provide technical assistance, event set up and break down, and other types of services. The Department also serves as the Tree Warden.
